READERSHIP (ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR) IN STATISTICAL MACHINE TRANSLATION
The goal of this project is to make a qualitative improvement in our ability to write sophisticated numeric code, by giving numeric programmers access to _fast_, _robust_, _general_, _accurate_ differentiation operators.
The Helsinki Doctoral Education Network in Information and Communications Technology (HICT) is a collaborative doctoral education network hosted jointly by Aalto University and the University of Helsinki, the two leading universities within this area in Finland. The network involves at present over 50 professors and over 200 doctoral students, and the participating units graduate altogether more than 40 new doctors each year.
The activities of HICT are structured along six research area specific
- Algorithms and machine learning
- Creative technologies
**Perception and Understanding of Urban Driving Scenes**
One-year position open from February 1st, 2014 (few weeks later can be negotiable). Heudiasyc Lab., CNRS - University of Technology of Compiègne, France.
Depending on his/her abilities and interests, the post-doctoral fellow will be involved in at least one of the following actions:
Applications are invited for four Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow posts to join a 5 year research programme addressing joint audio-visual scene analysis for future spatial audio at home. Research will pioneer a listener centred approach to 3D sound production that can dynamically adapt to the listeners' environment and location to create a sense of immersion. This requires new models for listener perception of spatial audio in natural spaces together with the audio-visual signal processing to produce, deliver and reproduce listener centred spatial audio in the home.

Master's program in Machine Learning and Data Mining
Given their complementary expertise in the fields of Machine Learning and Data Mining, the (France) and the University of Alicante (Spain) offer a two-year Master's program, called MLDM, leading to a double diploma of Master in Computer Science.
We are offering a 4 year PhD studentship on social and affective signal processing for Ubiquitous Computing. The aim of the project is to devise novel methods of automatically measuring the mood of large, dense crowds of people in a social setting using wearable sensing devices. The challenge of developing such methods is that dense crowds are difficult to monitor because of significant background noise and faulty wireless communication due to physical density. As a result many sensor modalities fail.
University College London invites applications for a PhD funding opportunity based in the UCL Department of Statistical Science. The studentship is partly funded by a Global Research Outreach award held by Dr Jinghao Xue in collaboration with the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology. The start date is flexible, between January and April 2014, although an early starting date is preferred.
10 PhD places in new Centre for Doctoral Training in Data Science
